
Stan van den Baar is a Dutch sound designer and composer, known for his work on films such as “Ome Cor” (2022), “One More Shot” (2021) and “Boykee” (2019).

He is the founder and owner of NOORDERSOUND, a studio based in the heart of Rotterdam that focuses on creating unique sound solutions for art and media.
At NOORDERSOUND, Stan strives for clarity in story and emotion through a multi-layered and holistic approach to sound for art and media, using various tools. His impressionistic approach, while sometimes unorthodox for mainstream media, is, according to him, suitable for experiential media.
In addition to his work at NOORDERSOUND, Stan is active as a freelance sound designer and technician for production houses. He is also affiliated with De Rode Loper, a project that focuses on increasing knowledge about trauma, where he uses his expertise in sound to tell stories live in theater or corporate events.
Stan shares his musical creations on platforms such as SoundCloud, where he has published the song “Venesta – Urban Explorer” among others.
With his various roles and projects, Stan van den Baar contributes to the Dutch art and media sector through his passion for sound and music.
From a young age Stan was fascinated by sound effects and music. His mother was a professional ballet dancer and his father exploited a pub so there was music on all the time. Growing up in a household of violence and addiction throughout most of his childhood, he found his escape from this turmoil in film and music. Re-enacting film scenes, learning the score and mimicking the sound effects like one of his childhood heroes: Michael Winslow.
He also developed a passion for the household VHS machine, the drums (aka Nan’s pots and pans), his grandads photo camera’s, portable taperecorder and the tapedecks and Wurlitzer jukebox from his uncle and started recording.
At the age of 13, nearing the end of his first year in high-school a friend and he started experimenting with computer-based musicking and he became fascinated with the possibilities.
A year later he discovered the local all-vinyl recordstore and from that point on his academic prospects quickly diminished as a he rapidly became an avid digger and night-time techno DJ Venesta on weekdays and weekends.

At the 10th anniversary of ADE he was invited to visit the SAE Institute studios then in Rotterdam and fell in love with what he saw: all those buttons!
3 Years later he moved to Rotterdam and Stan started to pursue a career in audio engineering while holding down an IT job as a systems administrator. During his studies at SAE he produced a couple of studio singles and ep’s and his first soundtracks for short-film under the name Audiophile Sound and Music which later split and became Sonophile, the label and Noordersound, the creative sound company.

Since then Stan has worked on numerous projects as an engineer or contributing artist and has won several awards for his work.
He is also a proud father to David, loving husband of Philine and still walks around with a recorder in his pocket.
